St. Christopher

Medieval
Fresco, beyond life-size
Church of St. Peter, Bacharach, Germany

Built in the 11th century, the church is now Lutheran, so we may surmise that this fresco was painted at some time between the 11th and 15th centuries. It is much dimmed by time. The staff seems to have a pilgrim's gourd-hook. Though usually pictured as a child on Christopher's shoulders, Christ is here an adult held in crook of the saint's left arm.
